I posted another version of this song a few years back. Can't believe I've been blogging for 3 years. Thanks to Red Neckerson (aka Howdy) for getting me started.

Anyone know who Arthur D is?

The a-side of this one is available on the Sarg Anthology, but the b-side isn't. So I thought it worth posting the whole record.

Onbekend (unknown country compilation)

Over the past 3 years I've downloaded an enormous amount of country music from blogs like Uncle Gil, Red Neckerson and the rest. Sometimes these mp3s are not cataloged in iTunes, and I usually fill in the holes. But in weeks when I download so much, some slip through the cracks and I leave the songs as they are, waiting to be completed later. In one of those cases I've lost the original blog posting and don't know what this album is. It is a compilation entitled "Onbekend", which is a Dutch word meaming "strange unknown person". That doesn't help me one bit. In the Comments section of the mp3 files, there is written "Wheeling West Virginia, Revisited". I could find no album with this name anywhere on the interet, and am hoping someone will come forward with info. I only have songs titles and would love at least to know the artist's names. It is 33 tracks, unbelievable country covers. I listen to it a lot and it's killing me that I don't know who is singing.

I've created another post with all the info about this disc. I'll keep this one here, just to save the comments section.

Dewey Knight

Found this in an antique shop next to the Mark Twain boyhood home in Hannibal, Missouri. Guess people don't go there to buy records, so this one was overlooked until I came along with my $2.

A very strange record. Almost sounds like he's making up the words as he goes, or maybe a demo or something. But the label is so pretty.

B & S Discs

Ben and Helmi Stoller were the owners of B & S Records.

I posted a record a while back from a Deadwood SD label called B&S. Scott at Vintage Music Company in Minneapolis has allowed me to transfer a few other discs from that label. There are 4 records, and instead of posting them all individually, I'll put them all in one download and save you the time.

You can read a bit about the label in the enclosed scanned newspaper articles, which were generously provided by the Adams Museum in Deadwood, via a blog listener by the name of Bruce.

Thanks to Bruce and the Adams Museum.

Country and Western Jamboree

If you look closely at the front cover, you'll see the guitar strap reads "Drusky", even though he isn't on this album. False advertising?

Also, on "Fifty Acres of Peanut Land", it sure sounds like he's singing "Fifteen Acres" instead of Fifty. Guess the guy who printed the album cover wasn't listening closely to the lyrics. But I am!

Bill Laundy

Here's what record looks like when it's taken care of

Here's what a record looks like when it's not.

Let's keep our records clean folks. Keep 'em in a cool dry place and clean them with cleaning solution.

Bill sounds a bit like Slim Whitman on Isle Of Golden Dreams. One of my very first postings was this record which remains one of my very favorite 45s. It just sounds so good, both sides equally. Bill's friend Glenna sent me an email saying that Bill appreciated my posting it. Glad to hear he is still with us, although she made it sound like his health is not as good as it used to be. Glenna also told me Bill's wife made a cd of his records. Wish I could get a copy of it. Bill apparently was moving or cleaning out his house a few years ago and sent boxes of his records to the landfill. My ears hurt when I heard that! Well, Bill you've left your mark on me!
