Vernon Dalhart (as Mack Allen)

I found this disc yesterday at Vintage Music Company in Minneapolis. They might be the only store left that sells only the 78 rpm format. The owner Scott knows more about 78s than anyone you're likely to meet.

This disc came to me two weeks late, as I had already sent out to friends my playlist for Tennessee. Dangit!

I'd really like to buy the book "Vernon Dalhart - First Star of Country Music", but it's hard to find because it was self-published. There a copy on ebay for $75. I looked around some libraries and the closest one to Minnesota that has it is in Memphis. Maybe I'll stop in on my way to the wedding in Tennessee next month and scan it to a pdf. I'd really like to know just how many aliases Marion Try Slaughter used in his career.

Divshare account limit reached

Hey all,
For the first time in the history of this blog, my free divshare account has reached its monthly download limit. The good part is I'm glad you have been using it. The bad is I don't feel like laying down the $20 to upgrade the account, so we'll have to wait until April 18th to download anything. Unless you yourself have an upgraded account, which would make you special.

See you in 6 days.

The Bluenotes

Joe Tanner (center, guitar) wrote the iconic riff to Roy Orbison's Pretty Woman. His cousin later said in an interview that Joe was called 'The Absent-minded Guitar Player' around Nashville, as he was constantly forgetting appointments and studio commitments, even forgetting to bring his guitar to a performance.

A Trip To Tennessee

I put this playlist together for an upcoming trip in May for a wedding. Track number 6 was taken from the Hillbilly Researcher blog. Track 22 was taken from the France's Favorite 45's blog. I thank them for those tracks. If they want them removed, I will do so immediately.

To burn this to a cd, you'll have to remove a couple of the tracks, because it clocks in at just over 80 minutes which is the limit for CDR. It sure is hard to choose which 2 tracks to remove!

This one's in rough shape, but hard to find. There was a skip in the reoord, which was repaired by someone who emailed it to me. Thanks, I've posted the repaired track.

78 rpm

Since I'm new to ripping 78s, I started out with some shoddy results but have gotten better at getting the audio to sound not so hissy. I've redone all 78s that I've posted so far and replaced the files on the blog. Just in case you have the time to download them again.

How am I doing?
