Tops hillbilly collection

A few years back, Red Neckerson's Radio Roundup (whose blog is now gone) posted a collection of tracks issued on the Tops budget label.  It was a homemade compilation, much like those done by Uncle Gil's Rockin' Archives.  I have been buying lots of tops country 45s and 78s over the past few years and would like to share what I have, as sort of a continuation of what Red Neckerson started.  Call it Tops Hillbilly Volume 2, if you like.  Except I don't have the talents to produce a fake album cover.

60 tracks in all, all taken from my own vinyl or shellac.

Bit of extra info Tops EP - 3002 tracks came out on Dixie (TN) EP 518 (1957) mail

as Uncredited Artists

Beny Barnes & The Echoes = Stolen Moments / There You Go / Train of Love

Jeanette Hicks = Repenting

The Dixie EP 518 was a 6 tracker with the alt version of Don't Stop The Music + Go Away With Me by George Thumper Jones

I'm guessing the Tops EP is a Collectors Bootleg as it does not follow the Tops EP numbering sequence?

I haven't contributed to 45cat since I've been working abroad with a slow internet connection. When I get back stateside in May, I'll start up again. I love that site.

Thanks as always for your info. Not sure about collector's bootleg or what.

Wish I knew more about the Tops hillbilly artists, like Bob Sandy. Never even seen a picture of him or know his real name.

Just caught Mr. Neckerson a couple months before he signed off. So sad. By any chance do you have that Tops Hillbilly Volume 1 or know where it might be on the web? Thanks.

Red Neckerson's original complilation had 36 tracks, I think. I have changed the album title on about 10 of the tracks, so not sure how to know which ones they were. Here's a link to download 25 of the tracks. At least that's something. I couldn't find a link to the full compilation online. I would bet my ten gallon hat that Uncle Gil has it. Maybe you can request him to post it.

New download link posted, although I don't know if I got all of the same tracks this time, since I didn't tag them as Volume 1 Tops Hillbilly. 79 tracks, so hopefully they're mostly the same.

Mostly the same but 21 new ones which are always nice. Thanks.
