Leroy Meekins
I've switched my download links to Mediafire, because Zippyshare links don't last more than a couple months. The Zippyshare embedded player is also unreliable, so let's try Picosong for a while. The site doesn't provide an embedded player, but I'm sure you don't mind it opening a new tab to play the song. We'll see how long Picosong links last. Opinions? Suggestions?

Pastor's Fireside
This disc is in poor condition, but luckily our friend Svein was able to clean it up so it's listenable.
Rev. Arthur Terminiello does a nice reading here. I was disappointed to learn he was an anti-Semite, and got in trouble because of it. The case against him was even brought to the US Supreme Court. But picking up this record, it's to me just a man reading about Christmas. He was born and raised in Massachusetts, which explains his accent.
He was assistant pastor at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Pensacola.
Side 2 is a vocal medley of Christmas carols, sung by Frank Terminiello, which might be a cousin or brother, accompanied by Robert Love on the organ.

Red Johnson / Bud Auge
Derik,
This song was recorded on the same session as my Capitol record of
"There's A Grand Ol' Opry Show Playing Somewhere". The song written by Howard Pine was brought to
me by Bud Auge and I loved it. It played on radio for many years and
was a popular Christmas record. The original was issued on Hep, but was also
used for advertising business around the country. The business would print their
name on it and give it out for Christmas to their clients.
The other side "Memoirs of a Christmas Tree" Bud Auge wrote a poem
to "Oh Christmas Tree" from a tree's point of view, and he recited it. The accordion or chord-o-vox was played by the late Joe Tishmack and the steel
guitar was Dick Mileski, bass was Bob Kolhoff, drums Wes Vaughn, guitar Lowell
LaBerge, and myself on rhythm guitar. We all recorded Christmas in Heaven,
Railroaded & There's a Grand Ol Opry Show Playing Somewhere on the same day, produced by John Voit.
I haven't heard from Howard in quite some time. He had the rights to
the vintage Slim Jim and The Vagabond Kid recordings and we spent many days in
my studio restoring the tapes to CDs and I think we did 35 or more at that
time. The coating was peeling off the tapes as they were 50 years old but I
thought they came out really well.
Maybe some of your readers can fill in the blanks on Howard Pine..
This pic was taken at the Chicago airport on one of our many trips to
Nashville, by Arlene Stewart, a fan and writer for a local paper in the
area. She met us on a layover at the Airport for coffee.
This may be garbled but I wrote it as I remember it.

Ben Hughes 1938 - 2007 |
This bio was posted on a message board after Ben died in 2007. He was a member of the International Internet Leather Crafters Guild (IILG)
Ben's bio in his words . . .
I attended Mastbaum Votec. High School in Philadelphia, PA as a youngster and worked in a variety of employment situations through the years. A serious car accident over 35 years ago got me involved in leather work while recuperating. Not only did I get involved, but I fell in love with the art of working in this medium. About 1990 I wanted to try art works that caught my attention to put in this wonderful medium. I found stone reliefs translated into the flexible medium of leather well. When I gave it a try, I not only found it enjoyable, but found it compelling and continued. Many famous artists' works and whatever else caught my eye or imagination and have been tried. It has been my privilege to donate a number of these works to a local school for the blind, where given the dimensional quality of the work, the blind could actually see the picture through touch. After some experimentation a more three dimensional achievement was arrived at and implemented in later works.
I have for many years had a keen interest in leather work, boating, flying, music, painting and, of course, computers.
My most rewarding enjoyment has been in creating or reproducing Art in Leather. Through the years I've experimented with a wide range of paints, including oils, acrylics and some paints and dyes designed for leather and the arts and crafts field. The combination on certain pieces works well. I have some pieces that are thirty years old and hold up well in normal conditions

I posted this 4 years ago, but back then I wasn't very good at cleaning up audio. So here's my much-improved re-do. I also know more about dead wax matrices than I did then, and was able to identify the year, with the help of Malcolm in England. Still no info on the singer or what NAO might mean.

Curley Marrow
This one is in pretty bad shape, but I wanted to share it anyway. Hard to find country singles on 45rpm from 1950. Most discs were still being issued on shellac at that time. This was a budget label, dating back to 1939. Its sister label was Royale Records. Here's some more info: http://www.russian-records.com/categories.php?cat_id=320
Imagine walking into a drugstore in 1950 and being not quite used to the idea of little 7'' records.
There's a near mint copy of this on ebay, but I don't see the point in paying $14 for it just to upgrade.
Curley Marrow had a few earlier releases on this label:

I want to thank Svein for helping me clean up this very scratchy record. This is the only disc I own that plays at 16 rpm. 46 1/2 minutes of sound on one little 7'' disc.

Derik, I had forgotten how big that recording really sounds it was fun to listen to it again after 40 plus years, I am trying to put together who was on the session. Yes Tony Caire was involved and he played the piano, bass, lead guitar and no doubt the vocals. The backup singers I can't recall who they were, I think they kind of worked the studio when someone needed it. Clayton Pickles was on drums and Joe Tishmack played the Melodica (a keyboard you blow into like a harmonica). Vi Tishmack was involved on keyboard and vocals and I played rhythm guitar. I can't remember the engineers name, but he kind of ran the studio. I'm sure George Garrett was present a lot of the time. The studio was on about Lake & Hennepin in South Mpls. The pressing was done by Rite Records in Cincinnati, Ohio. The year was 1971 when the hot pants craze was going on we thought we'd cash in on it if we could. - Red
