Sophie Parker with the Joe Merman Trio

A search of the name Sophie Parker turned up a death certificate for a  Jimmie Willard "Sophie" Parker.  Sounds like her father wanted a boy real bad.  Thanks to Bob the Scared Data Miner for the help.

How and why she came all the way to Minnesota from Galveston Texas to record this a mystery.  Unless she recorded it in Texas and had it pressed by Kay Bank.

Thanks for sharing.

Do you read the death certificate?

Jimmie Willard Parker, better known as Sophie Parker, billed "The Kate Smith of the South", heavyweight singer - bigger than Kate Smith- , was once the vocalist in The Patriots, a Texas western swing band led by Larry Lambert.

In her 1942 repertory was the song "I Want To Be A Cowboy's Sweetheart".

I don't find (not yet) a picture of Sophie...

Woman. Else, it's a big-time, serious X-Dresser...

I don't see any sentences written on the death certificate that is on the findagrave site.

Female and white says the certificate.
Indeed, the info come from my research.

Oh, yes now I see i does indeed say female. Missed that.

But where does it say Kate Smith of the South?

I'm not questioning your research, just want to know where you found it, that's all. I always appreciate the info you find Bob.

Thanks.

There is a relative good amount of info about Sophie Parker "the Kate Smith of the South", most of all related to the 1941 election campaign of Lyndon Johnson. Also few references in Billboard.
