"Some" Clarification

There have so been so many people upset about what I wrote in my June Webb posting that I have removed what I said about her. It seems some have misunderstood the meaning of the name of this blog, that I am calling the artists losers. That is simply not true.

The name of this blog was taken from a song by Bob Dylan, "Desolation Row".

The lyric is

Dr. Filth, he keeps his world
Inside of a leather cup
But all his sexless patients
They’re trying to blow it up
Now his nurse, some local loser
She’s in charge of the cyanide hole
And she also keeps the cards that read
“Have Mercy on His Soul”
They all play on pennywhistles
You can hear them blow
If you lean your head out far enough
From Desolation Row

I thought naming my blog with this title was clever, because it used a lyric from my favorite artist and described how I sometimes feel sitting in my basement listening to my records. It is a solitary hobby, and sometimes I feel like I'm the only one around who cares about these forgotten records. I also like to post records that come from Minnesota, giving additional relevance to the word "local" in the title. So now I hope you all can see the title of this blog refers to ME and NOT the recording artists who have been featured.

Promenade 54 & 55

Here are two promenade records. When you find these, seems about 90% of the time they are pretty far gone. People just didn't take care of them. Side A of 55-12 is unplayable and I wasn't able to get mp3s from it. So there are only 8 songs in the zip file. I didn't include theme from a summer place because it's an instrumental and who cares about another orchestral cover.

The folks who made Promenade (read about it here) were accused of not paying royalties for the records they issued. Their defense was that since these records were intended for home use only and not to be played on the radio, it was not necessary for them to pay anyone.

David O'Connor

At the Minneapolis record show, everyone has their table and their genre. I was picking through records at a table with mostly R&B, and found this country gem for a buck. He had written on it "buddy holly sound".
